Actual active perception
The light god prompts to sensory passivity and binary rigidity. We just have to let the light reach the retina or blindfold our eyes. Light travels in a straight line. We just have to be on the wrong side to not get any. Day or Night. Zero or One. We can't produce light so here again we are in a radical binary pattern, there is the light producer and the light consumer. If the producer doesn't want or can no longer emit light then the consumer is helpless in the dark. The sound god fairly lavish passivity and activity. Waves propagate in a circular or spherical way around their source. When the sound reaches us, sometimes we can protect ourselves, other times it is not possible. We can produce sounds intentionally or not, chaotic sounds or harmoniously structured ones. But above all sound is very complex to perceive.
The only variation to the light is its intensity which depends on the amount of light available. The light itself is a poor perception phenomenon, the illuminated objects are the only ones to be of any interest. They are offer their colors, their perspective and their movement through the light that bounces off their surface. On the contrary the sound have variations such as intensity which varies the volume, amplitude which gives the pitch, rhythm because there 's a limited duration and tone that indicates the identity of the sound producer. The combination of these four parameters offers endless opportunities of perceptions. The light gives poor and indirect perceptions, we can only capture them with our eyes. Sound provides rich and direct perceptions. We can capture them with our ears but also with our body. It is easy for instance to feel the bass in the limbs, in the thorax or in the abdomen.
The brain is more powerful than any computer. It is able among others to processing in real time the information that we perceive with our senses. It can make extrapolations, combinations, filtering, inlays, mitigation, amplifications, deletions... Anyone who has ever been in an extreme emotional situation knows from experience that we can be subject to all sorts of extremely realistic hallucinations. Unfortunately, we are generally unable to voluntarily use these powerful editing functions. They are automatically set in action by external objects and extreme conditions, such as under the effect of intense stress or powerful drugs.
Soundscapes are more complex to perceive than luminous landscapes. Indeed, we have the ability to modulate our attention to filter sounds, which is impossible with light. When an object is placed behind another, it is hidden, impossible to see because light travels in a straight line and stops at the slightest obstacle. By cons when a sound is masked by another, it remains perceptible, one just has to find the suitable auditory filter to capture it. For proof, just shut your ears with foam plugs in the midst of very noisy places, such as crowded market, train station or public transports. The deafening cacophony turns into a distant whisper, as if by magic, the faintest sounds become audible. The working the auditory perception requires us to be naturally active and focused, daily life offers countless opportunities to train. It teaches us to voluntarily discover the brain's powerful sensory edition functions instead of being their occasional victims.
From a spiritual point of view, sound perception also offers openings where light imposes aberrant blockages. Religious representations prompt us to imagine ourselves producing light by all possible means. The light of the heart, the light of the eyes, light coming out of the hands, sending light to a person in trouble, a halo of light around the head, the light that rises along the spine... All this deluge of organic light recalls the tale of the emperor 's new clothes. The emperor tries to think he is beautiful, he tries to believe he is richly adorned while he actually sees himself stark naked. He has been fooled. He was made to believe that his clothes are so subtle that only fine spirits can see them. To not look stupid, the emperor then pretends to see fabric where there is nothing. It is the same in the spiritual world, to look spiritually advanced, it is advised to sprinkle light everywhere and to claim that it is too subtle to be seen by ordinary people.
Rather than straining our neurons imagining pyrotechnic special effects that nobody can see, why not simply perceive what exists? The heart for instance, doesn't emit light, but it beats. Why not try to perceive the heartbeat? Our hands don't produce light then why wanting to transform them into lasers in our imagination? In them one can feel the blood pulsing, the heat, sound waves, magnetism... We undertake to do mental gymnastics to turn ourselves into walking neon instead of listening to the sounds that exist in us. Why not observing instead of imagining? Why not perceiving instead of inventing?
Our imagination is built from our perceptions. If we imagine instead of perceiving that which exists, our imagination is gradually impoverished, it turns around on itself, it produces its own raw material in autarky, it cuts us off from our body and its extraordinary abilities, it starves us in bright and sterile colorful dreams. Perceptions are our food. Unlike the light that is basic, binary, linear, superficial and passive, the sound is rich, complex, deep, three-dimensional, passive and active. The sound is overwhelming for our bodies, instructive for our minds and nourishing for our emotions.
